Vintage Masonic Order of the Eastern Star Ring
A masonic ring displaying the five-pointed symbol associated with the Order of the Easter Star. The star floats within a gold halo punctuated by tiny seed pearls. Chester hallmarks warrant the gold and date it to the year 1931.
The Order of the Eastern Star is, perhaps, unique as an appendage of a fraternal organisation designed explicitly for women. Freemasonry claims millions of members worldwide. Said to have emerged during the middle ages from craftsmen's guilds (although some believe its origins go back to the building of the Temple of Solomon), it's famously secretive and makes extensive use of symbols and allegories, many of which are related to stonemasonry however, as cathedral building declined, the masonic lodges began accepting non-masons so signs and symbols were incorporated from more diverse sources such as religious orders and crusading brotherhoods.
From Wikipedia: The Order of the Eastern Star (OES) is a Masonic appendant body open to both men and women. It was established in 1850 by lawyer and educator Rob Morris, a noted Freemason, and adopted and approved as an appendant body of the Masonic Fraternity in 1873. The order is based on some teachings from the Bible and is open to people of all religious beliefs. It has approximately 10,000 chapters in 18 countries and approximately 500,000 members under its General Grand Chapter.

Condition
We offer detailed and accurate condition reports on each listing. These pieces are antique, vintage, or pre-loved and often over 100 years old so they're going to have lived a life. A healthy patina and the odd scuff or scrape is quite normal... it's part of their charm! Everything we present has been checked over by our jeweller and should be good for wear for many years to come (unless otherwise stated) but please remember to treat them with appropriate care and consideration for their age.
