Victorian Scalloped Mourning Ring
A remarkable early Victorian single-stone ring built around a vibrant turquoise cabochon - a stone that represents friendship - within two concentric rings of scalloped openwork, complete with ribbons of black enamel around the inner rim, suggesting that this is a mourning piece. The craftsmanship is nothing short of exceptional, with split shoulders that appear to weave around themselves and feature fine engravings and textures. The combo of black enamel and turquoise implies that this ring could have been made to commemorate the death of a close friend, as opposed to a family member or spouse. And the head, with its two layers of petal-like scalloping, is marvellous. Dating from the 1850s, thereabouts, it's crafted in 14 carat gold with partially-struck Dutch hallmarks to the outer band.

Condition
We offer detailed and accurate condition reports on each listing. These pieces are antique, vintage, or pre-loved, often over 100 years old so they're going to have lived a life. A healthy patina and the odd scuff/scrape are quite normal... it's part of their charm! Everything we present has been checked over by our jeweller and should be good for wear for many years to come (unless otherwise stated) but please remember to treat them with appropriate care and consideration for their age.
