Victorian 15ct Gold Stock Pin
Rare 15 carat gold stock pin dating from the late Victorian era, circa 1900. Per vintageequestrian.co.uk: "Stock pins have been used on stocks worn by horse riders for hundreds of years. Stocks and stock pins were originally worn when hunting as a safety measure. In the event of an injury, the stock may be used as a temporary bandage for a horses leg or used as a sling for a riders arm, using the hunting stock pin to secure the stock in place."
This one takes the simple form of a safety pin; I always find it to be a glorious juxtaposition when an everyday object is crafted in precious metal. The options for wear are near endless: brooch, charm holder, necklace/chain extender, threaded through a chain, etc etc.

Condition
We offer detailed and accurate condition reports on each listing. These pieces are antique, vintage, or pre-loved and often over 100 years old so they're going to have lived a life. A healthy patina and the odd scuff or scrape is quite normal... it's part of their charm! Everything we present has been checked over by our jeweller and should be good for wear for many years to come (unless otherwise stated) but please remember to treat them with appropriate care and consideration for their age.
