Georgian Urn Memorial Ring
Beautiful antique memorial ring dating from the 1770s. The head features typical mourning scene: a funerary urn with laurel wreath sits atop a small pedestal under a weeping willow tree. The medium is remarkable: tiny pieces of the deceased's hair are arranged and stuck onto the white bone background... with detailing that seems impossibly fine. A dedication to the back of the head tells us that the ring was made to commemorate the life (and death) of I. Gilbertson who died on the 16th of June, 1776, aged 24. Crafted in 15 carat gold.
Era: Georgian, 1776
Ring size: L 1/2 or 6 US
Head: 15mm by 17.8mm
Marks: 1776, tested as 15ct gold
Condition & Care: Great antique condition. This is a 250 year old ring, and it shows light wear consistent with its age. Don't get it wet as water behind the glass will damage subject. Take it off to wash hands, do dishes, and for gardening, bathing etc. Don't worry if it gets splashed, just wipe/pat dry asap

Condition
We offer detailed and accurate condition reports on each listing. These pieces are antique, vintage, or pre-loved, often over 100 years old so they're going to have lived a life. A healthy patina and the odd scuff/scrape are quite normal... it's part of their charm! Everything we present has been checked over by our jeweller and should be good for wear for many years to come (unless otherwise stated) but please remember to treat them with appropriate care and consideration for their age.
