Art Nouveau Joan of Arc Pendant
Gorgeous Art Nouveau 'Joan of Arc' pendant dating from the early 20th century, circa 1910, by Edmond Becker (1871-1971) – one of the most celebrated French engravers. Jehanne Darc, as she was known in the 15th century, is the patron saint of France, now revered as a martyr and generally regarded as a symbol of freedom and independence. Transcending the established gender roles and claiming to be guided by visions from the archangel Michael, Saint Margaret, and Saint Catherine, she became a military leader (at 17) during the Hundred Years' War, breaking the siege or Orléans in April 1429 and leading the French army to a decisive victory against the English at Patay. The latter victory opened the way for the French to advance on Reims, where Charles VII was crowned King of France with Joan by his side.

Condition
We offer detailed and accurate condition reports on each listing. These pieces are antique, vintage, or pre-loved, often over 100 years old so they're going to have lived a life. A healthy patina and the odd scuff/scrape are quite normal... it's part of their charm! Everything we present has been checked over by our jeweller and should be good for wear for many years to come (unless otherwise stated) but please remember to treat them with appropriate care and consideration for their age.
