Art Nouveau Horn Butterfly Necklace by Elizabeth Bonté
A swallowtail butterfly carved from horn by Elizabeth Bonté. With original cord and glass bead necklace. One of the most renowned Parisian Art Nouveau jewellers, Bonté specialised in the use of semi-translucent horn to create innovative and visually striking naturalistic works of art.
These pieces were light and easy to wear, perfect to complement the revolutionary change in women's fashion that came about at the turn of the 20th century; indeed the butterfly itself was a metaphor for women's liberation, emerging from the chrysalis as women emerged from the social constraints of of the preceding centuries.
Bonté worked alongside Georges Pierre and the pair took inspiration from the great Art Nouveau master, René Lalique.

Condition
We offer detailed and accurate condition reports on each listing. These pieces are antique, vintage, or pre-loved and often over 100 years old so they're going to have lived a life. A healthy patina and the odd scuff or scrape is quite normal... it's part of their charm! Everything we present has been checked over by our jeweller and should be good for wear for many years to come (unless otherwise stated) but please remember to treat them with appropriate care and consideration for their age.
