Art Nouveau "Crique" Necklace by Amalric Walter
Wonderful antique Pâte De Verre pendant designed by Henri Bergé and made by Amalric Walter, circa 1920. The oval, translucent glass pendant displays a mottled, almost sinuous blue and green colouration with a brown cricket perched at the top. A simple cord with single wooden bead, both original, completes the necklace.
Henri Bergé and Amalric Walter teamed up in 1905, when Walter joined the Daum crystal factory in Nancy, France. Bergé, Daum's director at the time, created the patterns in their tradmark Art Nouveau and Walter executed the finished articles. The pair would go on to establish their own studio on rue Claudot, Nancy, in 1919, becoming most well known for their insect and animal themed miniatures. Walter would painstakingly create these stunning glass artworks based on Bergé's designs - each design made in small, limited runs. Walter's technique involved two firings, first to mould the glass paste into the desired shape, and second to add the colour.
