Art Deco Virgo Intaglio Ring
An antique zodiac ring with Virgo, the maiden, accompanied by her sign and the astronomical symbol for Mercury, her ruling planet. The ring is crafted in sterling silver with industrial - almost steampunk - styling and set with a cornflower blue glass panel with intaglio seal. It's English, circa 1930.
Virgo, translating from Latin as 'maiden' or 'virgin', is an earth sign. To the ancient Greeks and Romans, the constellation was associated with Demeter (Ceres), goddess of the harvest, or her daughter, Persephone, queen of the Underworld. The constellation's connection to the harvest also features in ancient Egyptian mythology: the time when the sun was in Virgo marked the beginning of the wheat harvest.

A healthy patina and the odd scuff/scrape are quite normal... it's part of their charm! Everything we present has been checked over by our jeweller and should be good for wear for many years to come (unless otherwise stated) but please remember to treat them with appropriate care and consideration for their age.
