Edwardian Gate Link Bracelet
An Edwardian period gate link bracelet dating from the early 20th century. Each of the eight gate links is set with two vivid amethysts, and they're connected by lengths of panther-link chain. It's crafted in 9 carat gold.
One pair of gemstones are not, in fact, amethyst. They're blue Garnet-topped doublets. Garnet-topped doublets, or GTDs, are a marvel of ingenuity... they're paste gemstones that have a thin "slice" of garnet fused onto the crown before the whole thing is then cut and faceted. They've been around since the 1840s and allow the vibrant colours possible with paste stones to have a much more durable crown with the bright vitreous lustre of garnet. The two set into this bracelets have clearly come from an older piece (there's some wear to the pavilion facets that could not occur while they're set like this) and it's not clear how they've ended up here.

Condition
We offer detailed and accurate condition reports on each listing. These pieces are antique, vintage, or pre-loved and often over 100 years old so they're going to have lived a life. A healthy patina and the odd scuff/scrape are quite normal... it's part of their charm! Everything we present has been checked over by our jeweller and should be good for wear for many years to come (unless otherwise stated) but please remember to treat them with appropriate care and consideration for their age.
