Ancient Roman Garnet Ring
An ancient Roman ring dating from the 3rd to 4th century CE. It's set with an unusually cut pyrope garnet; a long oval cabochon with with a sharp, knife-edge ridge running along its length. The ring is crafted in 23/24 carat gold with oval bezel and leaf-shaped shoulders that narrow to a 'V' where they meet the main band. It conforms to the Henig Type VIII or Guiraud Type III classifications, a similar example having been discovered in Uttlesford, Essex.
Era: Roman Britain, 3rd to 4th century CE
Ring size: K 1/2 or 5.5 US. Not resizable
Head: 9.5mm by 5.9mm
Stone: Garnet (variety almandine-pyrope)
Marks: None, tested as 23+ carat gold
Condition: It's been in the ground for some time but the condition remains very good for a ring of its age. The band is slightly misshapen, and there's some wear around the bezel and very light wear to the stone

Condition
We offer detailed and accurate condition reports on each listing. These pieces are antique, vintage, or pre-loved, often over 100 years old so they're going to have lived a life. A healthy patina and the odd scuff/scrape are quite normal... it's part of their charm! Everything we present has been checked over by our jeweller and should be good for wear for many years to come (unless otherwise stated) but please remember to treat them with appropriate care and consideration for their age.
