Modernist Necklace by Alan Gard
A modernist necklace by British designer Alan Gard. The pendant, suspended from an onyx bead necklace, comprises a frosted rock crystal frame with black onyx cubes and white diamonds suspended within. The combination of stones, and the overall form of the pendant, appear to take inspiration from the 1920s. London hallmarks date it to 1975 and warrant the white gold at 18 carat. Signed with the AMG maker's mark.
Alan Martin Gard was born in London in 1935 and apprenticed for seven years at Bond Street jewellers, Crombies, then with Andrew Grima at the HJ Company workshop in 1964. A Cockney, born and bred, he is, by all accounts, a tremendous character*, and a key figure in the remarkable British modernist movement that pushed boundaries of design and craftsmanship to their very limits in the wake of WW2.

Condition
We offer detailed and accurate condition reports on each listing. These pieces are antique, vintage, or pre-loved, often over 100 years old so they're going to have lived a life. A healthy patina and the odd scuff/scrape are quite normal... it's part of their charm! Everything we present has been checked over by our jeweller and should be good for wear for many years to come (unless otherwise stated) but please remember to treat them with appropriate care and consideration for their age.
