Georgian Imperial Topaz Pendant
A striking Georgian pendant dating from the early 19th century, circa 1820. It features a rich, golden coloured imperial topaz nestled within a halo of bright, lustrous pearls, and is crafted in 9 carat gold throughout. After starting life as a brooch, it was converted to a pendant sometime in the distant past.
Imperial topaz is a particularly special example of the gemstone and the most prized naturally hued variety. Its colour spans from vibrant yellow to rich orange and golden brown colours, even sometimes displaying pink and violet undertones. Russia's Ural Mountains have been a leading source of imperial topaz since the 19th century, and Brazilian imperial topaz mined in the Minas Gerais region is among the world's finest. Different varieties of the gemstone are said to hold different symbolic meanings, with imperial topaz being linked to creativity and strength. This highly sought-after variety of topaz is also strongly associated with royalty, likely as a result of the way in which its ownership was restricted to the Russian royal family after it was discovered in the 19th century.

Condition
We offer detailed and accurate condition reports on each listing. These pieces are antique, vintage, or pre-loved and often over 100 years old so they're going to have lived a life. A healthy patina and the odd scuff or scrape is quite normal... it's part of their charm! Everything we present has been checked over by our jeweller and should be good for wear for many years to come (unless otherwise stated) but please remember to treat them with appropriate care and consideration for their age.
