Victorian Greek Key Bangle
Greek Key bangle dating from the late Victorian period, circa 1900. The design is rendered in vivid royal blue guilloché enamel over silver and present all the way around the slim band. It's hinged one one side allowing it to be worn close against the wrist.
The Greek key, aka the meander or meandros, is a decorative pattern consisting of a continuous line that repeatedly doubles back on itself to form a series of rectangular or square shapes. The motif has been used in Greek art and architecture for thousands of years and has become a popular design element in art and decoration throughout history.
During the 18th and 19th centuries, the Greek key motif experienced a resurgence in popularity due to the influence of classical art and design on the neoclassical movement, a symbol of the enduring influence of classical art and design on Western culture.

Condition
We offer detailed and accurate condition reports on each listing. These pieces are antique, vintage, or pre-loved and often over 100 years old so they're going to have lived a life. A healthy patina and the odd scuff/scrape are quite normal... it's part of their charm! Everything we present has been checked over by our jeweller and should be good for wear for many years to come (unless otherwise stated) but please remember to treat them with appropriate care and consideration for their age.
