Edwardian Green & White Bracelet
Stunning antique bracelet retailed by Court Jeweller to the King & Queen, James Aitchison of 80 Princes Street, Edinburgh. It comprises wonderful swirled gold motifs punctuated by lines of seed pearls and green marquise cut gemstones: peridot and tourmaline, with distinctly different hues. The elements, each perfectly formed, are combined with three lengths of cable chain - all crafted in solid 15 carat gold. It remains paired with the original tooled leather presentation box, and dates from the Edwardian era (the king referred to on the box being Edward VII) circa 1905.
James Aitchison was a successful and highly renowned jeweller, but also a town councillor who had a hand in the construction of Edinburgh's famous Usher Hall. Rather than paraphrasing, I'll quote from Chris Holmes's 2014 blog post:
'Man walks into jewellers and writes cheque for £100,000. Leaves with nothing and is very happy.
This was the unlikely beginning of the Usher Hall in Edinburgh in 1896.
The man was whisky distiller Andrew Usher and the jeweller was his friend James Aitchison, goldsmith to the Queen and also a town councillor. His shop was at 80 Princes Street (now Clarks Shoes – the original is behind the later additional frontage).
Usher was reported to have said “I have so much money, I don’t know what to do with it” to which Aitchison replied “I never thought I would live to see the day when anyone would come into my shop and tell me that.”'

Condition
We offer detailed and accurate condition reports on each listing. These pieces are antique, vintage, or pre-loved, often over 100 years old so they're going to have lived a life. A healthy patina and the odd scuff/scrape are quite normal... it's part of their charm! Everything we present has been checked over by our jeweller and should be good for wear for many years to come (unless otherwise stated) but please remember to treat them with appropriate care and consideration for their age.
