Victorian Silver Coffee Pot
An exceptional antique sterling silver coffee pot with London hallmarks for 1894. The baluster shaped jug features swirling rococo style repoussé work of foliage and fruits and a curved gadroon edge. The handle is made from bamboo, weaved together in a geometrical lattice pattern.
The jug has a JPFP makers mark for Pairpoint Brothers, a respected London silverware manufacturer founded in London in 1848. An 1898 book by John Henry Cardwell mentions the firm, stating; 'Pairpoint copies of ancient patterns are dangerously near being indistinguishable from the originals, whilst their new manufactures carry one back to the days when the master silversmiths employed the first artists of the day to assist them in their productions "devised in love and fashioned cunningly." ... To the amateur of antique silver and Sheffield plate, whether he be in Europe or America, the name of Pairpoint is a household word, and the quantity of antique plate and "Old Sheffield" that has passed through the hands of the firm since the renaissance of 1874 is little short of fabulous...'

Condition
We offer detailed and accurate condition reports on each listing. These pieces are antique, vintage, or pre-loved, often over 100 years old so they're going to have lived a life. A healthy patina and the odd scuff/scrape are quite normal... it's part of their charm! Everything we present has been checked over by our jeweller and should be good for wear for many years to come (unless otherwise stated) but please remember to treat them with appropriate care and consideration for their age.
