Victorian Sapphire Carved Half-Hoop Ring
An exceptional Victorian carved half-hoop ring, notable for both the collection of stones, and the quality of craftsmanship. Set with three deep blue sapphires and two pairs of bright old mine cut diamonds, the sides of the gallery are deeply engraved with swirling scroll motifs that go on to form the prongs securing the stones in place. Crafted in 18ct gold, it dates from the latter half of the 19th century, circa 1880.
This style of ring has been made, and engraved, by hand in Hatton Garden (London's jewellery quarter) for well over 150 years. This one is an early example, and the technique has been passed down generation after generation of jewellers - largely unchanged.

Condition
We offer detailed and accurate condition reports on each listing. These pieces are antique, vintage, or pre-loved, often over 100 years old so they're going to have lived a life. A healthy patina and the odd scuff/scrape are quite normal... it's part of their charm! Everything we present has been checked over by our jeweller and should be good for wear for many years to come (unless otherwise stated) but please remember to treat them with appropriate care and consideration for their age.
