Victorian Pique Eclipse Brooch
Cool antique brooch dating from the Victorian period, circa 1870. The form is akin to a closed crescent, and reminds me of a solar eclipse.. the rare 'ring of fire' type whereby the moon is visible as a dark disc in front of the sun, with blazing flames around the edges. It's crafted in pique (moulded tortoise shell) with rose gold inlay and metal brooch fittings.
Era: Victorian, circa 1870
Size: 3.2cm by 3.2cm
Marks: None, fittings are base metal. Inlay is 9ct rose gold
Condition: Good. The thinnest point at the top has been repaired at some stage - see images of the back

We offer detailed and accurate condition reports on each listing. These pieces are antique, vintage, or pre-loved, often over 100 years old so they're going to have lived a life. A healthy patina and the odd scuff/scrape are quite normal... it's part of their charm! Everything we present has been checked over by our jeweller and should be good for wear for many years to come (unless otherwise stated) but please remember to treat them with appropriate care and consideration for their age.
