Victorian Bee Ring
Cute antique ring with a honeybee perched on the band. Dating from the late Victorian period, it's set with opal, diamond, emerald, and marcasite, and crafted in 9ct gold and silver. The bee is wonderfully detailed, with wings stretched out and stinger curled down poised to strike.
Bees have long been a symbol of co-operation and industry, especially around these parts (northwest of England). The ancients saw them as messengers from the gods, associated with the soul and fertility. This ring was made in England, as the Industrial Revolution was in full swing. Manchester was one of the cities at the cutting edge of social, political, and industrial progress, and adopted the bee as its symbol.

Condition
We offer detailed and accurate condition reports on each listing. These pieces are antique, vintage, or pre-loved, often over 100 years old so they're going to have lived a life. A healthy patina and the odd scuff/scrape are quite normal... it's part of their charm! Everything we present has been checked over by our jeweller and should be good for wear for many years to come (unless otherwise stated) but please remember to treat them with appropriate care and consideration for their age.
