Murrle Bennett & Co Garnet Ring
Gorgeous Art Nouveau ring by the esteemed English jewellery firm Murrle, Bennett & Co of London. The band, crafted in 15 carat gold, crosses over at the head terminating with a single bright, blood-red garnet cabochon. It looks far more contemporary than it really is, having been made circa 1910. Signed MB&Co.
Siegele & Bennett, the company that would go on to become Murrle, Bennett & Co, was founded by German émigré Siegele, Ernst Mürrle and J.B. Bennett in London in 1884. Famed for bringing Jugendstil to England, they advertised as: manufacturers and importers of British and Foreign jewellery also at 39 Bleich-strasse, Pforzheim.
Over a couple of decades, around the turn of the 20th century, MB&Co became highly regarded for contemporary designs within the Art Nouveau/Arts & Crafts/Jugendstil movements, working with prominent art jewellers of the day (Theodor Fahrner, Christian Ferdinand Morawe, etc.) and stocking emporiums such as Liberty & Co.
Under the dark shadow of WW1, and due to the repatriation of Mr. Mürrle in 1916, the firm was purchased and the business rebranded as White, Redgrove & Whyte.

Condition
We offer detailed and accurate condition reports on each listing. These pieces are antique, vintage, or pre-loved, often over 100 years old so they're going to have lived a life. A healthy patina and the odd scuff/scrape are quite normal... it's part of their charm! Everything we present has been checked over by our jeweller and should be good for wear for many years to come (unless otherwise stated) but please remember to treat them with appropriate care and consideration for their age.
