Etruscan Revival 'Bird-of-Paradise' Micromosaic Ring
An incredible micromosaic ring dating from the mid-19th century, circa 1860. The curved, rectangular panel depicts Bird-of-Paradise in all its multi-coloured glory - wings outstretched and long tail feathers trailing behind. The ring itself, built in 15 carat yellow gold, is crafted in the Etruscan Revival style with fine ropework border and trefoil shoulder accents. The name Anne has been scratched into the underside of the head.
Birds-of-Paradise are native to the dense rainforest habitats of Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and Easter Australia, and are closely related to corvids. "Societies of New Guinea often use bird-of-paradise plumes in their dress and rituals, and the plumes were popular in Europe in past centuries as adornment for ladies' millinery [hats]" - Wikipedia.

Condition
We offer detailed and accurate condition reports on each listing. These pieces are antique, vintage, or pre-loved, often over 100 years old so they're going to have lived a life. A healthy patina and the odd scuff/scrape are quite normal... it's part of their charm! Everything we present has been checked over by our jeweller and should be good for wear for many years to come (unless otherwise stated) but please remember to treat them with appropriate care and consideration for their age.
