Early Victorian Snake Ring
Remarkable antique snake ring dating from the early Victorian period, circa 1840. The serpent has a cute, cartoonish face with googly ruby eyes and a sly hint of a smile. It's important/amusing to remember that the jewellers making the serpent jewellery of this period had, more than likely, never seen a snake... maybe not even a picture of one. And, while this one's certainly not bad - anatomically speaking - some of them are quite hilarious. The head features a row of old mine cut diamonds starting at the 'brain' and running down the neck, crafted in silver over 15ct gold. The band forms the snake's body, looping once around the finger with tail hooked around itself just behind the head.

Condition
We offer detailed and accurate condition reports on each listing. These pieces are antique, vintage, or pre-loved, often over 100 years old so they're going to have lived a life. A healthy patina and the odd scuff/scrape are quite normal... it's part of their charm! Everything we present has been checked over by our jeweller and should be good for wear for many years to come (unless otherwise stated) but please remember to treat them with appropriate care and consideration for their age.
