17th Century Stuart Crystal Slide
An exceptional Stuart Crystal slide dating from the 17th century, circa 1670. Intricately woven hairwork panels and a cryptic gold wire cypher (the initials AA ?) are protected by a rock crystal front, cut with facets around the outer edge. It's beautifully preserved, with only light wear/patina, and crafted in 22 carat gold throughout.
"The genre of jewels popularly known as "Stuart Crystal" were exchanged in England as sentiments of love, loyalty and commemoration from the mid 17th and until the early 18th century. Initially created to commemorate the death of King Charles I – and therefore the Stuart monarchy – panels of woven hair, monograms, crowns and initials in gold thread were set in gold or gilt beneath faceted 'crystals' of rock crystal or paste to wear as rings or slides around the neck or wrist." - Bonhams

Condition
We offer detailed and accurate condition reports on each listing. These pieces are antique, vintage, or pre-loved, often over 100 years old so they're going to have lived a life. A healthy patina and the odd scuff/scrape are quite normal... it's part of their charm! Everything we present has been checked over by our jeweller and should be good for wear for many years to come (unless otherwise stated) but please remember to treat them with appropriate care and consideration for their age.
