the first day

A Christmas Snake

A cheeky Cheshire-cat grin, bristling with lines of jagged, triangular teeth, forms the focal point of this remarkable antique serpent bracelet. He dates from the mid Victorian period, circa 1860; a time when silly snakes were firmly in vogue (also a time when most jewellers had never seen a snake in real life).

the second day

A Baroque Ring

A delightful two-stone diamond ring in the Baroque style, dating from the early 18th century. The head is dramatically ornate with two rose cut diamonds resting in high, rub-over settings, nestled within a burst of foliage rendered in both gold and silver to create a pleasing bimetal effect.

the third day

Pique Party Earrings

Glorious antique earrings dating from the early Victorian era, circa 1840. The design is, however, somewhat timeless; they wouldn't have looked out of place in boutiques of the 1920s, 1970s, or 2010s.

the fourth day

An Art Nouveau Necklace

The latter half of the 19th century saw, for the first time since the Renaissance, jewellery and metalwork considered as fine art that was "outstandingly original" and "detached from fashions in dress". This necklace, crafted in the Art Nouveau style, is signed by French artist Fernand Grange.

the fifth day

Memento Mori Ring

A scarce 17th century death's head band in 22 carat gold. The distinctive squished, cartoonish skull engraved outside the band, gives these rare rings a nickname in the trade: pumpkin heads.

the sixth day

A Modernist Necklace

Post-war modernist necklace by British designer Alan Martin Gard. The pendant, suspended from an onyx bead necklace, comprises a frosted rock crystal frame with black onyx cubes and white diamonds suspended within.

the seventh day

A Victorian Swan Brooch

Exquisitely formed antique swan brooch decked with rose cut diamonds and a magnificent, semi-zoomorphic baroque pearl as its folded wing. It dates from the late Victorian period, circa 1880.

the eighth day

Pan

The ancient Greek god of shepherds and hunters, of the meadows and forests and mountain wildernesses, of the rustic and the pastoral, and of all of nature's wildness.

the ninth day

Art Deco Square Halo Ring

An Art Deco cocktail ring that plays on dualities:  presence and delicacy; square and circle; precision and imperfection; organic and artificial; warm and cool...

the tenth day

A French Amethyst Necklace

A bold statement necklace made in France around the turn of the 20th century. It's set with five amethysts - big stones, around 40 carats in total - in simple flat claw baskets suspended from double lengths of cable chain to loosely resemble a Y.

the eleventh day

An Edwardian Bracelet

Stunning antique bracelet retailed by Court Jeweller to the King & Queen, James Aitchison of 80 Princes Street, Edinburgh. It comprises wonderful swirled gold motifs punctuated by lines of seed pearls and green marquise cut gemstones: peridot and tourmaline, with distinctly different hues.

the twelfth day

A Platinum Necklace

Exquisite Edwardian pendant necklace by Ernest Lloyd Lawrence of South Molton Street in Mayfair, London. Complete with its original fitted box and chain, the pendant is crafted in platinum in the Garland Style, breathtakingly delicate and finished with fine millegrain edges.
