Georgian Agate Brooch
A big, striking antique brooch dating from the late Georgian period, circa 1800. The large, cushion-shaped stone is a remarkable brown agate specimen piece featuring layer upon layer of different brown colours from sandy-beige to near-black. The striations are irregular, the rock having been folded and distorted as it formed, to create an image that - without much imagination at all - is reminiscent of a mountain landscape (for me, it's a classic glaciated valley with U-shaped profile, steep sides, and patches of trees and vegetation dotted around the valley floor). The stone is polished with a slightly convex surface, set in a typical cut-down "pie crust" mount. Built in rosy 9 carat gold.

Condition
We offer detailed and accurate condition reports on each listing. These pieces are antique, vintage, or pre-loved, often over 100 years old so they're going to have lived a life. A healthy patina and the odd scuff/scrape are quite normal... it's part of their charm! Everything we present has been checked over by our jeweller and should be good for wear for many years to come (unless otherwise stated) but please remember to treat them with appropriate care and consideration for their age.
