Art Deco Scottish Sword Brooch
Okay, it's a kilt pin. But wear it as a brooch (or even a pendant) if you don't wear a kilt... Crafted in sterling silver, it features a thistle flower set with pink and silver granite within a halo at the top, and a long sword blade below with applied ropework detail - possibly the initial S. Birmingham hallmarks confirm the date of manufacture as 1929.
There's a legend behind the origins of the kilt pin (and it's probably not true). They say that queen Victoria was inspecting a regiment of Scottish soldiers when a timely gust of wind blew up one unfortunate private's kilt, revealing his... well, privates. The queen, thinking on her feet, removed a pin from her hat and used it to secure the lad's kilt. Of course, if a kilt is made properly using suitably heavy fabric then this problem would never arise so... 🤷

Condition
We offer detailed and accurate condition reports on each listing. These pieces are antique, vintage, or pre-loved, often over 100 years old so they're going to have lived a life. A healthy patina and the odd scuff/scrape are quite normal... it's part of their charm! Everything we present has been checked over by our jeweller and should be good for wear for many years to come (unless otherwise stated) but please remember to treat them with appropriate care and consideration for their age.
