Etruscan Revival 'Garnet & Grape' Ring
Garnets and grapes. A perfect pairing.
Exquisite garnet ring crafted in the Etruscan Revival style, complete with granulation, applied ropework, and grape vines and leaves on each shoulder. It dates from the latter half of the 19th century, circa 1870, crafted in warm, 15 carat gold throughout.
The grape vine motif his highly potent, representing wisdom - in vino veritas - but equally representing the wine of life - hence immortality. In this ancient context, there are obvious links to Dionysus/Bacchus, and also as an attribute of agricultural and fertility deities. Grapes take on the symbolism of wine in intoxication, hospitality, orgy, and youthfulness.

Condition
We offer detailed and accurate condition reports on each listing. These pieces are antique, vintage, or pre-loved, often over 100 years old so they're going to have lived a life. A healthy patina and the odd scuff/scrape are quite normal... it's part of their charm! Everything we present has been checked over by our jeweller and should be good for wear for many years to come (unless otherwise stated) but please remember to treat them with appropriate care and consideration for their age.
