Victorian Paste Riviere Necklace
An excellent deep teal paste riviere necklace dating from the mid 19th century, circa 1860. Often mistaken for their Georgian cousins, rivieres from this period can be identified by three features: the plain rubover settings (not pie-crusts); the simple hook clasp (rather than a concealed clasp); and the unusually coloured stones that don't necessarily seek to emulate natural gemstones like emerald, diamond, aquamarine etc. We've seen them with hot pink, turquoise, bright yellow, and now these rather gorgeous dark greenish blue stones set over foil (always) to give them a striking inner glow. Crafted in sterling silver throughout.

Condition
We offer detailed and accurate condition reports on each listing. These pieces are antique, vintage, or pre-loved, often over 100 years old so they're going to have lived a life. A healthy patina and the odd scuff/scrape are quite normal... it's part of their charm! Everything we present has been checked over by our jeweller and should be good for wear for many years to come (unless otherwise stated) but please remember to treat them with appropriate care and consideration for their age.
