Art Deco Cherry Amber Beads
Long 'cherry amber' bead necklace dating from the 1930s. The oval beads display a rich, deep crimson-red hue and graduate in size from 3cm to a little over 1cm where they fasten with a concealed screw clasp.
This type of bead, known as 'cherry amber' in the jewellery trade, is often in correctly sold as bakelite. Although both bakelite and cherry amber beads are a type of early phenolic plastic, bakelite is never translucent and colourful like these beads. This particular early plastic was developed in 1926, and was quickly adopted by jewellers on account of its similarity, in both look and feel, to natural amber.

Condition
We offer detailed and accurate condition reports on each listing. These pieces are antique, vintage, or pre-loved and often over 100 years old so they're going to have lived a life. A healthy patina and the odd scuff/scrape are quite normal... it's part of their charm! Everything we present has been checked over by our jeweller and should be good for wear for many years to come (unless otherwise stated) but please remember to treat them with appropriate care and consideration for their age.
