1920s Egyptian Revival Necklace
Cool antique silver fringe necklace set with seven turquoise enamel cabochons, with charms of blue and red enamel depicting various ancient Egyptian iconography suspended from each. The Art Deco movement was greatly inspired by the geometry and form of Ancient Egyptian design, following the 'Egyptomania' that swept across Europe and America after the rediscovery of Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922.
The charms are displayed symmetrically about the centre, each one representing a different prominent symbol from ancient Egyptian culture. The first charm represents a lotus flower, then a symbol of creation and rebirth because at night the flower closes and sinks underwater, and at dawn it rises and opens again. The second charm depicts a pharaoh's head donning a typical Nemes - the striped headdress worn by Egyptian rulers. The third charm is most likely a Sa, an amulet of protection, particularly for children and pregnant women. The central and final charm is an ankh, one of the most famous and widely used emblems from ancient Egypt. It represents the cycles of life and immortality, embodying the concept of eternal life and divine protection and symbolises Ra, the sun god.

A healthy patina and the odd scuff/scrape are quite normal... it's part of their charm! Everything we present has been checked over by our jeweller and should be good for wear for many years to come (unless otherwise stated) but please remember to treat them with appropriate care and consideration for their age.
