Georgian Navette Memorial Ring
A superb Georgian navette mourning ring dating from the latter half of the 18th century. A dedication to the back of the head reads, "Jane Gray, obt 12th Feb 1788, aet 28". The date of her death forms an eerie parallel to the "Nine Day Queen": Lady Jane Grey (incidentally, 18th and 19th century sources often spell her surname Gray) who was famously beheaded in the Tower of London on the very same day - February 12th - 234 years earlier. The ring is unusual in that the head is set with a large, bevelled moss agate panel - I've never seen one quite like it.

Condition
We offer detailed and accurate condition reports on each listing. These pieces are antique, vintage, or pre-loved, often over 100 years old so they're going to have lived a life. A healthy patina and the odd scuff/scrape are quite normal... it's part of their charm! Everything we present has been checked over by our jeweller and should be good for wear for many years to come (unless otherwise stated) but please remember to treat them with appropriate care and consideration for their age.
