Early Victorian Devil Pin
An unusual early Victorian stick pin modelled after satan - the horned devil himself. It's exquisitely made, dating from the mid 19th century, circa 1850, crafted in silver and gold with rose cut diamond eyes.
But who would have worn such a pin? It's a reasonable question, and I'm instantly reminded of the infamous Hellfire Clubs of Britain and Ireland, 'where free will and Lucifer met at an uneasy junction between aristocratic entitlement and sadism'. * Per Wikipedia:
Such clubs, rumour had it, served as the meeting places of "persons of quality" who wished to take part in what were socially perceived as immoral acts, and the members were often involved in politics. Neither the activities nor membership of the clubs are easy to ascertain.

Condition
We offer detailed and accurate condition reports on each listing. These pieces are antique, vintage, or pre-loved, often over 100 years old so they're going to have lived a life. A healthy patina and the odd scuff/scrape are quite normal... it's part of their charm! Everything we present has been checked over by our jeweller and should be good for wear for many years to come (unless otherwise stated) but please remember to treat them with appropriate care and consideration for their age.
