Victorian Pearl Dove Pin
Weird and playful antique stick pin formed as a dove. A zoomorphic, baroque pearl represents the body and folded wings and it's really quite remarkable, with a feather-like surface texture where the flight feathers should be, and, of course, a gorgeous silky-white lustre. The head and neck are rendered in gold, again textured to look like feathers, with a single garnet cabochon eye. English, circa 1890.
Doves have found their way into most corners of the Earth, except for the driest areas of the Sahara Desert, Antarctica and the high Arctic. These birds have an exceptional sense of direction and are able to navigate over long distances using the Earth's magnetic fields. Doves have also been used as symbols of peace and love for thousands of years: in ancient Greece, they were associated with Aphrodite, the goddess of love, and in Christian art, the birds are often depicted as carrying an olive branch, symbolic of peace.

Condition
We offer detailed and accurate condition reports on each listing. These pieces are antique, vintage, or pre-loved, often over 100 years old so they're going to have lived a life. A healthy patina and the odd scuff/scrape are quite normal... it's part of their charm! Everything we present has been checked over by our jeweller and should be good for wear for many years to come (unless otherwise stated) but please remember to treat them with appropriate care and consideration for their age.
