1920s Egyptian Revival Sarcophagus Charm
Cool Egyptian Revival pendant dating from the 1920s. The sarcophagus is decorated in vibrant lapis-blue, turquoise, and golden enamel and hinged at the feet, opening to reveal a mummy inside. (Nonsense-ish) hieroglyphs adorn the outer surfaces of the sarcophagus.
The discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922 sparked a fresh wave of Egyptomania in Europe and the USA, with Egyptian themes both directly and indirectly inspiring the jewellery and fashions of the Art Deco period. Crafted in silver with a gold wash still very much present over the mummy inside.
Era: Art Deco, circa 1925
Size: 2.8cm (including bail) by 0.7cm
Marks: None, silver with a gold wash
Condition: Good antique condition, the gold wash has more-or-less worn away on the outer surfaces

Condition
We offer detailed and accurate condition reports on each listing. These pieces are antique, vintage, or pre-loved and often over 100 years old so they're going to have lived a life. A healthy patina and the odd scuff or scrape is quite normal... it's part of their charm! Everything we present has been checked over by our jeweller and should be good for wear for many years to come (unless otherwise stated) but please remember to treat them with appropriate care and consideration for their age.
