But Guthrie didn't coin the phrase, he borrowed it from American factory workers who used to put stickers on their metalworking lathes and drill presses - the machines used to make the guns and tanks and bullets being sent across the Atlantic to fight the fascists. Because Guthrie was fighting them too, albeit on a different front.
